Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team took on the defending NCAA Division II National Champions and this season's number one ranked team in the country, the Franklin Pierce University Ravens, at Knights Field on Wednesday night, and the Purple Knights gave the Ravens all the could handle before conceding four goals in the final 10 minutes of the match playing a man down, as FPU defeated UB, 6-1. Franklin Pierce is now 2-0-0 on the year, and Bridgeport is now 0-2-1.
Trailing 2-0 on goals in the 17th and 55th minutes, the Purple Knights pulled to within 2-1 when freshman Joao Miranda (Bridgeport, Conn.) netted his first career goal on a beautiful free kick strike.
Unfortunately that was as close a UB would come before the visitors broke the game open with four tallies from the 80:38 to 86:43 marks of action.
Franklin Pierce outshot Bridgeport, 23-7, on the night.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team opens a two-match road swing on Saturday afternoon in Springfield, Massachusetts when the Purple Knights face American International College. Game time is set for 12 noon.
