Men's Soccer Secures A Home CACC Championship Quarterfinal Match With A 3-1 Road Win Over Holy Family
Purple Knights Wrap Up Conference Slate With An 8-2-2 Record For A Total Of 26 Points
Philadelphia, Pa.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team wrapped up its 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference schedule with a 3-1 road win over the host Holy Family University Tigers in Philadelphia, Pa. on Saturday afternoon. With the victory, the Purple Knights guarantee themselves a home CACC Championship Tournament Quarterfinal match on Tuesday, November 1, as UB can be no lower than a three seed in the championship. The Purple Knights are now 10-4-3 overall and finish 8-2-2 in conference play. The Tigers are 9-6-1 overall and 7-2-1 in the CACC.
Lucas Sousa (So., Campinas, Brazil) got UB on the scoreboard first on Saturday when he put home a penalty kick in the 30th minute of action for his seventh goal of the year.
Bridgeport's Ozar Razo (So., Hidalgo, Tex) would extend his team's lead to 2-0 just 2:30 before the halftime whistle when he netted his first goal of 2022 on a bicycle kick off an assist from freshman Bruno Cakurs (Rujiena, Latvia).
After Holy Family cut the Purple Knights' lead in half to 2-1 with a 63rd minute tally, freshman Maximilian Kissel (Wiesbaden, Germany) put the game to bed for Bridgeport with his team and conference-best 12 goal of the season with just over 13 minutes left in the match.
Bridgeport outshot Holy Family, 15-10, on the afternoon, and Tigers finished with a 7-3 advantage in corners.
UB goalkeeper Clement Anet (Grad., Cosse le Vivien, France) made five saves in the match, all of which came in the second half.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team closes out its 2022 regular season schedule with a home Senior Day non-conference contest against regionally-ranked and former East Coast Conference opponent Mercy College on Wednesday afternoon at Knights Field. Game time is set for 4:00 p.m.
