UB Now 7-2-2 In Conference Play And 9-4-3 Overall
Bridgeport, Conn.-Trailing 1-0 heading into the second half of play after a goal by the visiting Felician University Golden Falcons just 5:22 into play, the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team exploded for five goals in the final 45 minutes of action to post a 5-1 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference victory on Tuesday night at Knights Field. With the victory, the Purple Knights are now 9-4-3 overall and 7-2-2 in conference play. The Golden Falcons are now 6-4-6 overall and 3-3-4 in the CACC.
UB tied the match at 1-1 just 4:16 into the second half, when senior Jesse Clark (Stratford, Conn.) headed home his third goal of the year off a beautiful free kick service from freshman Jakob Reinhard (Marburg, Germany).
Just under 12 minutes later, freshman Maximilian Kissel (Wiesbaden, Germany) put home his first of two goals in the match to give him a team and conference-best total of 11 off an assist from Josef Preci (Savona, Italy) to give the Purple Knights a 2-1 lead which they would never relinquish.
Sophomore Lucas Sousa (Campinas, Brazil) would extend the UB lead to 3-1 just over five minutes later with a beautiful goal straight off a free kick.
Bridgeport would then leave no doubt about the outcome of the match when Kissel finished off his brace in the 86th minute off a feed from sophomore Jose Uresti (Pharr. Tex.), and Ian Spetnagel (Grad., Denver, Colo.) netted a penalty kick with 50 seconds to play for his second goal of 2022.
Bridgeport outshot Felician, 12-11, on the night and finished with 6-3 edge in corner kicks.
UB goalkeeper Clement Anet (Grad., Cosse le Vivien, France) made four saves to pick up his ninth win of the season.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team closes out its 2022 conference schedule at Holy Family University in Philadelphia on Saturday at 2:30 p.m. before wrapping up its regular season slate at home on Wednesday, October 26 with a non-conference tilt versus Mercy College that will begin at 4:00 p.m.
