Lakewood, N.J.-The host Lions of Georgian Court University scored the game-winning goal with just under 14 minutes to play in the match, as GCU topped the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights, 2-1, in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference men's soccer tilt on Saturday afternoon. With the defeat, UB is 8-4-3 overall and 6-2-2 in the CACC. The Lions are now 4-10-1 overall and 3-6-1 in conference play.
Trailing 1-0 into the second half of play, UB's Henry Greiner (So., Munich, Germany) tied the contest up with his fourth goal of the season in the 66th minute, but Lions roared back to net what proved to be the winning goal just 10 minutes later. Griener has now scored in back-to-back matches for the Purple Knights.
Saturday was a frustrating day for the UB offense, as Bridgeport outshot GCU, 22-12, and finished with an 11-3 advantage in corner kicks, but Lion's goalkeeper Sotirins Gkosids proved to be a key in the match for the winning home side making eight saves.
UB goalkeeper Clement Anet (Grad., Cosse le Vivien, France) had three saves on the afternoon.
Up next, the Purple Knights return home on Tuesday evening to host Felician University at 6:00 p.m. on Knights Field in a CACC match that will be part of a doubleheader with the Bridgeport women.
