Bridgeport, Conn.-After seeing their six-match winning streak snapped with a 2-1 loss at Jefferson on Friday afternoon, the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team got right back in the win column at home on wet and chilly Tuesday night with a 2-0 blanking of the visiting Bloomfield College Bears in a Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference match. With the win, the Purple Knights are now 8-3-1 overall and 6-1-0 in the CACC. Bloomfield falls to 1-7-3 overall and 1-5-1 in conference play.
UB got on the scoreboard quickly on Tuesday, as Luis Rubio (Grad., Edinburg, Tex.) put home his first goal of 2022 just 2:25 into action when he scored after collecting a punch out by Bloomfield keeper Jomar Vizcaino off a corner kick from Lucas Sousa (So., Campinas, Brazil).
The Purple Knights would complete the scoring in the match just over 20 minutes later when sophomore Jose Uresti (Pharr, Tex.) netted his second goal of the season off a lovely back pass from Sousa, who now has a team and conference-leading eight assists so far this year. Lucas also lead the team and conference in points with 18 through 12 matches.
Bridgeport outshot Bloomfield, 10-7, in the match, and the Purple Knights finished with a 904 advantage in corner kicks.
UB goalkeeper Clement Anet (Grad, Cosse le Vivien, France) made one save to pick up his fourth solo clean sheet of the season and the team's fifth shutout of the year.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team will host CACC-leading Wilmington (Del.) University on Saturday evening. Kickoff is set for 6:00 p.m. The Wildcats sit atop the CACC standings with 19 points, and the Purple Knights sit in second place with 18 points.
