Freshman Maximilian Kissel's Hat Trick Helps Lift UB Men's Soccer To A 4-0 Home Win Over Caldwell
Purple Knights Have Won Six matches In A Row And Are Now 5-0-0 In Conference Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-Freshman Maximilian Kissel (Wiesbaden, Germany) netted three goals for the first hat trick of his collegiate career on Wednesday night, as the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team cruised to its sixth win in a row and remained unbeaten in Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference play with a 4-0 home win over the visiting Caldwell University Cougars at Knights Field. With the victory, the Purple Knights, who have scored four goals in each of their last three outings, are now 7-2-1 overall and 5-0-0 in the CACC. Caldwell is now 2-6-2 overall and 1-2-2 in conference play.
Kissel's three goals on Wednesday raise his season total to a team-leading seven tallies so far in 2022.
His first goal of the night came 19:53 into play when he found the back of the net off a nice free kick feed from sophomore Jose Uresti (Pharr, Tex.), and his second goal of the contest came just under six minutes later off a beautiful one-two pass from sophomores Lucas Sousa (Campinas, Brazil), who finished with two assists on the night, and Henry Greiner (Munich, Germany).
Leading 2-0 heading into the second half, Bridgeport scored two times in the final 45 minutes of play, as freshman Jakob Reinhard (Marburg, Germany) put home his first career goal off a feed from Sousa, and Kissel finished off his hat trick in the 62nd minute when he headed home a cross from sophomore John Louis (Bridgeport, Conn.).
UB outshot Caldwell, 16-7, on the evening, and corner kicks finished even at five for each team in the match.
Clement Anet (Grad., Cosse le Vivien France), who made two saves, and freshman Kevin Singleton (Gothenburg, Sweden) shared the shutout in the Purple Knights' net. As team, Bridgeport now has amassed four clean sheets so far this season.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team will travel to Philadelphia, Pa. on Saturday afternoon to look to continue its winning streak at Thomas Jefferson University. Game time is set for 2:30 p.m. as part of a doubleheader with the Purple Knights' women's team.
