Wilmington, Del.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team continues its run of fine play of late, as the Purple Knights ran their winning streak to five straight matches with a convincing 4-1 road conference victory over the host Lightning of Goldey-Beacom College in Delaware on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Purple Knights are now 6-2-1 overall and remain unbeaten in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference at 4-0-0. GBC remains winless at 0-10-0 overall and 0-5-0 in the CACC.
On Saturday, UB scored a pair of goals in each half on its way to the triumph. In the opening half, sophomore Henry Greiner (Munich, Germany) netted his first of two goals on the day, and classmate Lucas Sousa (Campinas, Brazil) put home his team-leading fifth goal of the 2022. Sousa would finish with four points on the afternoon, as he added a pair of assists.
Leading 2-0 at halftime, the visiting Purple Knights would extend their lead to 4-0 in the second half on goals by freshman Lucas Mah (Basel, Switzerland) and Greiner's second tally of the day.
Graduate student Clement Anet (Cosse le Vivien, France) made five saves on the afternoon to pick up his sixth win of the 202 season. Freshman Kevin Singleton (Gothenburg, Sweden) finished in net for UB making one save.
Bridgeport outshot Goldey-Beacom, 25-11, in the match, and finished with a 8-2 advantage in corner kicks.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team returns to Knights Field on Wednesday evening at 6:00 p.m., as the Purple Knights will look to continue their roll when they host the Cougars of Caldwell University in a CACC contest.
