Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-Senior Jesse Clark (Stratford, Conn.) scored two goals less than five minutes apart deep into the second half to lift the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team to an important 2-1 East Coast Conference road victory over the host Mercy College Mavericks on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Purple Knights are now 2-1-0 in conference play and 2-3-2 overall. Mercy is now 4-3-1 overall and 1-1-1 in the ECC.
Trailing 1-0 after the host Mavericks scored less than five minutes into the second half to break a scoreless deadlock, Clark tied thing up at the 72:11 mark off an assist from Felipe Ospina (Grad., Miami, Fla.). His game-winner would come shortly thereafter at the 76:37 mark when he fired a beautiful strike from distance into the top right corner of the Mercy net off a feed from sophomore Ozar Razo (Hidalgo, Tex.).
UB dominated the game on offense taking 19 shots to nine for Mercy.
UB goalkeeper Clement Anet (Cosse le Vivien, France) made one save to earn the win in net for the Purple Knights.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team returns to the Park City on Saturday afternoon when the D'Youville College Saints come to Knights Field for a conference contest. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m.
