Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport Purple Knights men's soccer took on the number five ranked in the nation LIU Post Pioneers on Saturday for Senior Day and the final ECC match up of the 2017 season in the Park City. The Purple Knights recognized eight seniors before the contest: Jay Abreu (Sao Paulo, Brazil), Femi Coker (Johannesburg, South Africa), Rafael Dos Santos (Danbury, Conn.), Jose Irias (Norwalk, Conn.), Dominick Roberge (New Hyde Park, N.Y.), Stephon Stewart (Trumbull, Conn.), Rafael Torres (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) and Jaylan White (Dix Hills, N.Y.).
LIU recorded the first three goals of the match before the Purple Knights could find the back of the net. Lukas Ostermann scored the first two goals for the LIUP. Assisting on the goals were teammates Nico Anderson and Khalid Al Saud. Vittorio Argeri scored marker next off an assist from Ostermann to make the score 3-0.
The Purple Knights' lone goal came from sophomore Nikolai Vadseth (Langevaag, Norway), his third goal of the year, at the 38:22 minute mark off an assist from senior Femi Coker (Johannesburg, South Africa).
To finish off the scoring for LIU, Charlie Ledula, Ostermann, Harry Pearse and Johann Kristjansson added one more apiece. Pearse, Anderson, Neil Feminella and Argeri assisted the last three goals.
LIU had the edge in shots and corner kicks with a 19-8 and 9-1 advantage.
Bridgeport's junior goaltender Juan Munoz (Bogota, Columbia) had five saves on the day, several of which were spectacular.
This match wraps up the 2017-18 season for UB men's soccer team. They capped off the season at 4-10-1 overall and 3-5-1 in ECC play. LIU Post moves onto the ECC Championship Tournament as the top seed with a 14-0-2 overall record and a 7-0-1 ECC mark.
