UB Men's Soccer Picks Up First Win Of 2012 With 2-1 Victory Over Bentley
Bridgeport Scores One Goal In Each Half To Notch The Win
Waltham, Mass.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team picked up its first win of the 2012 season on Tuesday afternoon, as the Purple Knights topped the Bentley University Falcons, 2-1. UB is now 1-4 on the season; while Bentley, the number five ranked team in the East Region by the NSCAA, suffers its first loss of the 2012 campaign and falls to 3-1.
Junior Jonny Ortiz (Stamford, Conn.) scored the first goal of the match in the first half when he put home a beautiful though ball from sophomore Danny Ruiz (Stamford, Conn.) after a steal by Ruiz near midfield.
Bridgeport upped its lead to 2-0 when freshmen Alex Longobardi (North Haven, Conn.) scored the first tally of his college career and what proved to be the game-winning goal in the second half, when he headed home a deflected cross from sophomore Matt Garcia (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) in the 68th minute.
Bentley would score its only goal of the contest with just over four minutes to play in regulation, but that was the only time the Falcons would find the back of the net on Tuesday as freshman goalkeeper Augustin Prados (Madrid, Spain) would make a total of three saves to earn the victory for UB.
The Bridgeport men's soccer team is back in action on Friday afternoon, as the Purple Knights travel to NYIT to open their 2012 East Coast Conference schedule.
