Men's Soccer Earns First ECC Win Of The Season With 3-0 Home Victory Over NYIT
Three Different Players Score Goals And Danny Hernandez Earns Second Shutout Of 2011
Bridgeport, Conn.-Junior goalkeeper Danny Hernandez (Bay Shore, N.Y.) made eight saves to record his solo second shutout of the 2011 season, and three different players scored goals for the University of Bridgeport as the Purple Knights posted a 3-0 home East Coast Conference men's soccer win over the visiting NYIT Bears on Saturday night. With the win, UB is now 5-4-0 overall and 1-2-0 in the East Coast Conference. Bridgeport has also now won back-to-back games after snapping a three-game losing skid on Thursday. NYIT is now 6-2-1 overall and 1-1-0 in the ECC.
Sophomore Markus Naglestad (Kristiansand, Norway) got the Purple Knights on the scoreboard at the 29:24 mark of the first half when he found the back of the net off a free kick. Naglestad leads UB with six goals on the season.
Just over nine minutes later, senior Patric Brundin (Gothenburg, Sweden) ups UB's lead to 2-0 when he fired home his own rebound at the 38:54 mark. Sophomore Danny Ruiz (Stamford, Conn.) recorded an assists on Brundin's goal.
Bridgeport's final goal of the contest came at the 71:45 mark when freshman Wagner Colodette (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored his first collegiate goal off an assist from Markus Naglestad.
The UB men's soccer team is back in action on Wednesday, October 5, when they host Bentley University. Game time is set for 5:00 p.m.
