Mercy Tops Men's Soccer, 2-1, In Overtime
Purple Knights Fall In 2011 ECC Opener
Dobbs Ferry, N.Y.-Mercy College's William Koki scored the game-winning goal with 54 seconds left to play in the first overtime to lift the host Mavericks to a 2-1 win over the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights in the 2011 East Coast Conference men's soccer opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon. Mercy ups it overall record to 4-1-1 and is 1-0-0 in the ECC. UB is now 3-2-0 overall and 0-1-0 in conference play.
Bridgeport scored the first goal of the contest when junior Arnold Hitoaliaj (Tirana, Albania) scored his second goal is as many games off an assist from freshman Matt Garcia (Wappingers Falls, N.Y) at the 29:37 mark.
The score remained 1-0 in favor of the Purple Knights into the early stages of the second half when Collin Legge tied things up for the Mavericks on a penalty kick just over five minutes into the second 45 minutes of action.
The Bridgeport men's soccer team returns to action at home on Wednesday night when they host Bloomfield College. Game time at Knights Field is set for 6:00 p.m.
