Softball Defeats Goldey-Beacom to Advance to CACC Tournament Winner's Bracket
The Purple Knights will play No. 17-ranked Wilmington tomorrow for the right to have to be beaten twice on Saturday in the championship.
NEW CASTLE, Del. – Beginning the double-elimination portion of the CACC Tournament, the second-seeded University of Bridgeport softball team earned a 6-1 win over third-seeded Goldey-Beacom on Thursday. The Purple Knights will now take on top-seeded Wilmington in the winner's bracket tomorrow at 11 a.m.
It was a pair of Delaware natives, Kaite Burawski and Mya Jones, that led the way for UB against the Lightning.
Burawski continued her sensational 2024 campaign with yet another complete game. The left-hander allowed just one run and four hits while striking out 10 batters.
Burawski's terrific outing puts her record at 15-9 this season with a 2.53 ERA. She has also racked up 210 strikeouts in 158 innings pitched.
On the other side of the ball, Jones was sensational and provided the majority of UB's offense. The sophomore went 3-for-3 with four RBIs and a walk.
Jones knocked in UB's first run in the first inning courtesy of an RBI single. She also cleared the bases with a three-RBI double in the fourth.
Meg McFarland was sensational at the plate as well. The CACC first teamer went 2-for-2 with three runs scored and two walks.
Also, on the offensive side of things, Angela Oros supplied both of UB's final two runs with an RBI double in the sixth.
UB's lead-off batter Madison D'Amato went 1-for-2 with two runs scored and two walks.
