Softball Invades Latest NCAA Regional Rankings at No. 8
The Purple Knights did not appear in the previous two regional rankings.
BRIDGEPORT, Conn. – As we get set for the CACC Tournament this weekend at Wilmington, the University of Bridgeport's softball team was slotted No. 8 in the most recent NCAA East Region rankings released on Wednesday. The Purple Knights did not appear in the previous two regional rankings.
Bridgeport is coming off a first-round victory over Caldwell in the CACC playoffs last Saturday. The Purple Knights, who are the No. 2 seed in the conference tournament, are 25-20 overall this season (17-5, CACC).
Coach Stearns' squad now surges into the double-elimination portion of the CACC Tournament this weekend at top-seeded and No. 17 Wilmington.
The Purple Knights have had a sensational 2024 campaign playing against one of the toughest schedules in the region. UB holds a 16-3 record in the month of April and has dominated a good portion of their conference slate.
Bridgeport has outscored its opponents by a 126-37 margin in April and finished the year with a 12-1 record at home.
Individually, the Purple Knights have been led by a host of different players this season. Meg McFarland, Angela Oros, and Kaite Burawski were each named to the CACC's All-Conference First Team earlier this week while Mya Jones was tabbed to the league's Second Team.
UB also swept the most recent CACC weekly awards released on Monday.
The Purple Knights will play third-seeded Goldey-Beacom to begin the double-elimination part of the CACC Tournament on Thursday at 1:30 p.m.
