Men’s Soccer Attacking Duo Receives USC All-East Region Honors
Lucas Sousa and Maximilian Kissel were recognized by United Soccer Coaches earlier this week.
Kansas City, Mo.- University of Bridgeport men's soccer program had two members recognized by United Soccer Coaches and named to All-East Region teams. Junior Lucas Sousa (Campinas, Brazil) and Sophomore Maximilian Kissel (Wiesbaden, Germany) were both named to All-East Region Second Team.
Sousa and Kissel propelled the Purple Knights through regular season and ended 2023 as runners-up in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tournament Final after falling in regulation to the No. 11 nationally ranked Post University. They finished the season with 10-7-3 overall record.
Maximilian Kissel has a stellar second year for Bridgeport, finishing the 2023 season as the top goal scorer in all of Division II men's soccer with 23 goals. He added two assists to finish with 48 points and registered the game winning goal three times for UB. Kissel has already earned CCA All-East Region First Team, CACC All-Conference First Team and All-Tournament Team Honors for the 2023 campaign.
Captain Lucas Sousa was a crucial part of the creative and free flowing UB attack this year. The attacking midfielder scored five goals and provided eight assists for 18 total points. Sousa, so often the difference, scored the game winning goal on two occasions for Bridgeport. Lucas was also named to the CCA All-East Region Second Team and CACC All-Conference First Team earlier this year.
