Four Men’s Soccer Members Earn All-CACC Team Honors
Four Purple Knights were named to All-CACC teams for their 2023 regular season performances.
New Haven, Conn. – The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team had four members recognized by the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Tuesday. Captain Lucas Sousa (Campinas, Brazil) and Sophomore Maximilian Kissel (Wiesbaden, Germany) were named to the 2023 CACC Men's Soccer All-Conference First Team with Hugo Franceschi (Fr., Toulouse, France) and Noah Bolivard (Grad., LeMans, France) being named to All-Conference Second Team.
Lucas Sousa ended the regular season with five goals and five assists for 15 total points from the midfield. Sousa registered 30 shots with 17 finding the target for a .567 shot on goal percentage. Leading by example, the maestro also bagged two game winning goals for the Purple Knights against Thomas Jefferson University and Caldwell University.
Maximilian Kissel had another standout year in the CACC as he led the conference with 16 goals and added one assist for 33 points. Kissel started in all 17 games for UB this season and spearheaded the attack with 62 total shots, finding the frame 39 times for a .629 shot on goal percentage. The forward scored two game winning goals this regular season, propelling the Purple Knights against Goldey-Beacom College and Chestnut Hill College.
Freshman shot stopper Hugo Franceschi had a fantastic rookie year in the CACC for Bridgeport between the pipes. Franceschi played in 15 matches for UB, registering 1,282 total minutes. He earned eight wins and two clean sheets while playing over 80 minutes in two more shutout efforts for the Purple Knights. Hugo allows just a 1.33 goals against average during the regular season while making 46 saves. The protector turned provider against American International College on September 9th as he assisted from his own penalty area to give Bridgeport a first half lead.
Noah Bolivard was rock solid for UB in the heart of defense this year. The defender started in all 17 regular season matches this year and was pivotal in four Purple Knight clean sheets. Strong in the air and in the tackle, Bolivard consistently won his one-on-one duels regardless of opponent.
