Bridgeport Men's Soccer Plays Number 21 Georgian Court To A 2-2 Double Overtime Draw

Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team played its final non-conference match of the 2021 season on Wednesday night at Knights Field, and the Purple Knights battled the nation's number 21 ranked team, the Georgian Court University Lions to a 2-2 deadlock in double overtime.  With the tie, UB is now 4-6-3 overall; while the Lions remain unbeaten so far this year at 9-0-3.

The Purple Knights got on the scoreboard first on Wednesday, when junior Josh Erdos (Stratford, Conn.) netted his first goal of the season off an assist from senior Odhran Casey (Derry, Northern Ireland) just 17:37 into action.

The teams would head into their locker rooms at the half tied at 1-1, as the Lions scored with just 1:14 remaining in the opening stanza.

GCU grabbed a 2-1 lead in the 77th minute when Louis Silva scored his fifteenth goal of the year, but Bridgeport battled back to tie things at 2-2 just 49 seconds later when senior Jesse Clark (Stratford, Conn.) fired home his team-leading fifth goal of the season to the top corner of the net.

Both teams' goalkeepers played well in the match, as Bridgeport outshot Georgian Court, 20-16.  The Lions' Gianluca Cerosimo made seven saves, including two big ones in the second overtime, and UB's Clement Anet (Cosse le Vivien, France) stopped six shots, including two fine saves in the opening overtime period.

Up next, the UB men's soccer team will play its final regular season home game of the season this Saturday at 3:00 p.m., when the Purple Knights host St. Thomas Aquinas in key East Coast Conference contest.  Saturday is also Homecoming and Senior Day.
