Bridgeport, Conn.-Five different players scored goals on Saturday afternoon, as the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team cruised to a 5-0 East Coast Conference home win over the visiting D'Youville College Saints. UB, winners of two matches in a row, are now 3-1-0 in conference play and 3-3-2 in the ECC. The Saints fall to 4-5-2 overall and are winless at 0-5-0 in conference action.
The Purple Knights got first half goals from senior Hannes Nilsson (Tors, Sweden) and freshman Kevin Martinez (Edinburg, Tex.) to take a 2-0 advantage into the locker room at halftime.
In the second half, senior Jesse Clark (Stratford, Conn.) netted his third goal of the week and the season, along with freshman Jose Uresti (Pharr, Tex.) and junior David Torres (Stamford, Conn.), who found the back of the net, to make the final score 5-0.
Clark and sophomore Ozar Razo (Hidalgo, Tex.) had assists for the winners on the afternoon.
In goal, graduate student Clement Anet (Cosse le Vivien, France) and senior Marcus Carrington (Hamden, Conn.) shared the shutout, with Anet making two saves and Carrington stopping one Saints' shot on goal.
On the day, UB outshot D'Youville, 21-9.
Saturday's five goals are a season high for the Purple Knights.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team takes a break from East Coast Conference play with a non-conference road contest versus Nyack on Wednesday afternoon. Game time is set for 12 noon at Laurel Hill Park in Secaucus, New Jersey.
