Rochester, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team wrapped up its 2018 season with a gritty 3-2 road win over the host Roberts Wesleyan College Redhawks on a cold and wet evening in Western New York. With the win, the Purple Knights wrap up their 2018 season at 10-4-1 overall and 5-3-1 in the East Coast Conference. UB finished the season on a six-match unbeaten streak going 5-0-1. RWC finishes its season at 5-8-3 overall and 2-6-1 in the ECC.
Saturday's match-winner came off the boot of junior Erlend Skagestad (Mjoendalen, Norway) who converted his third penalty kick of the year with just over two minutes to play.
Skagestad's goal was the only scoring of the second half.
Bridgeport's Tom Godden (Fr., Leeds, England) opened the scoring just 44 second into play when he scored his fourth goal of the season off a feed from junior Leandro Avila (Panama City, Panama).
The host Redhawks scored the next two goals to grab a 2-1 lead before the Purple Knights' Oscar Facey (Trangsund, Sweden) knotted things up a 2-2 heading into halftime with his fifth goal of 2018 in the 30th minute.
Bridgeport senior goalkeeper Daniel Coviella (Ribadesella, Spain) made three saves to earn the victory in the Purple Knights' net.
UB dominated the shots in the contest firing off 31 to just 11 for RWC.
