Freshman Jesse Clark's Two Goals Help Lead UB Men's Soccer To High-Scoring 5-3 Win At Goldey-Beacom
Victory Ups The Purple Knights Overall Record To 8-4-0 So Far In 2018
Wilmington, Del.-Freshman Jesse Clark (Stratford, Conn.) scored the final two goals of the match in the 73rd and 79th minutes to help lift the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team to a high-scoring, 5-3, non-conference road win over the host Goldey-Beacom College Lightning on Wednesday afternoon. With the victory, the Purple Knights, winners of three matches in a row, are now 8-4-0 overall. GBC falls to 4-10-1 on the season.
The hosts raced out to a 1-0 lead just over 11 minutes into play, but UB's Jhonah-George Felipe (Sr., Kailua, Hawaii) tied thing at 1-1 at the 19:16 mark off an assist from freshman Odhran Casey (Derry, Northern Ireland).
The teams would head into their locker rooms at halftime knotted at 2-2 after the Purple Knights again came back to tie the contest with just eight second to play in the opening stanza on a penalty kick strike form junior Erlend Skagestad (Mjoendalen, Norway).
Bridgeport took a 3-2 lead just over five minutes into the second half when junior Lucas Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) headed home a corner kick from freshman Luis Cari (Trumbull, Conn).
After the Lightning tied the match for the third time on the day, Clark put the Purple Knights up to stay at 4-3 when he netted his first goal of the day off and assist from Skagestad, and he added an insurance tally off a helper from junior Shinchiro Hirai (Hamamatsu, Japan).
The Purple Knights had the best of the run of play for most of the day outshooting GBC, 28-16.
Senior Daniel Coviella (Ribadesella, Spain) made three saves in net for the visitors to pick up his third win of the season in net.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team will host a key East Coast Conference match at home on Saturday, when the Purple Knights take on Queens (N.Y.) College on Senior Night. Game time is set for 6:00 p.m.
