Newark, Del.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team battled on Tuesday afternoon, but the host Wilmington (Del.) University Wildcats scored the game-winning goal with 9:02to play in the second half to post a 2-1 non-conference victory over the visiting Purple Knights. With the win, Wilmington is now 7-2-0 on the season, and with the loss, UB remains winless in 2016 at 0-8-0.
The Wildcats opened the scoring in the match with a tally in the 21st minute, but Bridgeport freshman Jake Atkinson (Stamford, Conn.) tied things up at 1-1 with his first career collegiate goal at the 24:13 mark of the opening half.
Purple Knights' goalkeeper Fabio Junior (Sr., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) played well on Tuesday making seven saves to keep his team in the match, as the Wildcats outshot UB, 16-3, on the day.
