Amherst, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team defeated the host Daemen College Wildcats, 5-3, in a 2015 wild regular season finale for both teams that featured six second half goals. With the win UB is 10-6-0 overall and 6-4-0 in the East Coast Conference. Daemen wraps up its 2015 campaign at 2-13-1 overall and 0-9-1 in conference play. With Sunday's win by the Purple Knights and a lose by Dowling at Roberts Wesleyan, UB has earned the fourth and final spot in the 2015 East Coast Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament and will travel to top-seeded LIU Post on Wednesday afternoon.
On Sunday, the Purple Knights raced out to a 2-0 lead at the half on goals by junior Luka Ivanovic (Belgrade, Serbia), who finished the day with his second hat trick in the last three matches, and freshman Klyde Jacques (Baldwin, N.Y.).
Daemen would then tie things up at 2-2 when the scored an own goal off a UB defender in the 62nd and another tally just over one minute later.
Bridgeport would then score the next three goals to put the match away when senior Erick Romero (Norwalk, Conn.) found the back of the net at the 63:58 mark, and then two more goals from Ivanovic in the 69th and 75th minutes. Luka's second goal of the afternoon came off an assist from Romero, and his third goal came on a penalty kick. On the season, he now has a team-high 10 goals.
The host Wildcats would score the final goal of the match and the sixth goal of the wild second 45 minutes of action with 11:09 to play, but the Purple Knights held them off the scoreboard the rest of the way to earn a spot in the 2015 ECC Men's Soccer Championship Tournament.
