Purple Knights Net A Season-High Five Goals In Key ECC Men's Soccer Win At Molloy
UB Tops The Host Lions, 5-1, As Junior Luka Ivanovic Scores Three Goals And Adds One Assist On The Day
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team erupted on offense for a season-high five goals on Saturday afternoon, as the visiting Purple Knights picked up a key East Coast Conference victory defeating the host Molloy College Lions, 5-1. UB is now 9-5-0 overall and 5-3-0 in the ECC. Molloy is also 5-3-0 in conference play, and the Lions are 10-4-0 overall.
Junior Luka Ivanovic (Belgrade, Serbia), who would finish the day with a hat trick to give him a team-high seven on the season, opened the scoring for the Purple Knights at the 32:53 mark of play when he headed home a free kick from senior Luis Fajardo (Danbury, Conn.).
Fajardo would then assist on what turned out to be the game-winning goal on Saturday when another free kick he took was headed home by junior Rafael Torres (Belo Horizonte, Brazil) at the 40:08 mark of the first half.
The host Lions would score their only goal of the afternoon just 27 seconds later to make the score 2-1 at the half.
Ivanovic would then score his second goal of the day just over 10 minutes into the second half off an assist from freshman Klyde Jacques (Baldwin, N.Y.).
Luka then assisted on a goal by countryman Lazar Baresic (So., Belgrade, Serbia) just over a minute later, and the same duo would flip-flop roles in the 76th minute, as Ivanovic completed his hat track and finished with seven points in the match.
Bridgeport freshman goalkeeper Daniel Coviella (Ribadesella, Spain) picked up the win in net giving him five victories on the year, as he made five saves in 82:57 of action while allowing just one goal. Junior Fabio Junior (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) made one save finishing the final 7:03 of action.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team will look to run its winning streak to three matches when the squad begins the final weekend of regular season action at Roberts Wesleyan College in Rochester, New York on Friday night. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
