Sparkill, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team snapped a four-match losing streak with a 2-0 road East Coast Conference win over the host St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans on Wednesday afternoon. The Purple Knights are now 8-5-0 overall and 4-3-0 in the ECC. STAC slips to 3-10-1 overall and 1-6-1 in conference action.
Junior Luka Ivanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) scored his team-leading fourth goal of the season off an assist from senior Luis Fajardo (Danbury, Conn.) 22:15 into play in the first half to give UB a 1-0 advantage.
The match would remain a tight 1-0 contest until Bridgeport freshman Klyde Jacques (Baldwin, N.Y.) netted his first collegiate goal with only 5:20 to play.
Freshman goalkeeper Daniel Coviella (Ribadesella, Spain) had a strong afternoo0n between the pipes for the Purple Knights making six saves to record his second solo shutout of the year.
Wednesday's win by UB also gives Bridgeport head men's soccer coach Brian Quinn career victory number 150.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team will continue its four-match road swing to end the 2015 regular season at Molloy College on Saturday afternoon. The key ECC action is slated to begin on Long Island at 12 noon.
