Bridgeport, Conn-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team scored the first goal and the last goal of the match, but unfortunately for Purple Knights fans, the visiting NYIT Bears scored three goals in-between to notch a 3-2 East Coast Conference win at Knights Field on a chilly Saturday evening. UB is now 7-5-0 overall and 3-3-0 in the ECC. NYIT ups its record to 8-4-1 overall and 4-2-0 in conference play.
Bridgeport senior Luis Fajardo (Danbury, Conn.) opening the scoring on the night when he put home his second goal of 2015 off a top-notch assist form sophomore Femi Coker (Johannesburg, South Africa) at the 27:35 mark of play.
NYIT would take a 2-1 lead in halftime with goals at the 39:16 and 43:10 marks of the opening 45 minutes.
The Bears would then extend their lead to 3-1 with only 7:30 to play, but the host Purple Knights would cut that lead to only one at 3-2 when Coker would find the back of the net for the third time this season off a goalmouth scramble from an assist from junior Luka Ivanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) just 1:19 later; however the match would end 3-2 in favor of the visitors.
The UB men's soccer team will look to snap a four-match losing streak on Wednesday afternoon when they travel to St. Thomas Aquinas for an important ECC contest. Game time is set for 3:00 p.m. in Sparkill, N.Y.
