Flushing, N.Y.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team played its first road match of the 2015 season on Wednesday afternoon, and the Purple Knights picked up a 1-0 East Coast Conference win over the host Queens (N.Y.) College Knights, UB is now 6-1-0 overall and 2-0-0 in conference play. QC falls 1-4-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the ECC. The six wins already this season have surpassed the Purple Knights' win total of five for the entire 2014 season.
Senior Erick Romero (Norwalk, Conn.) scored the only goal of the match on Wednesday when he found the back of the net off an assist from freshman Oliver Karlsson (Gothenburg, Sweden) just 12:58 into play.
Bridgeport junior goalkeeper Fabio Junior (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) had a fine match making nine saves to record his second straight clean sheet. All six of UB's wins this season have come via the shutout. Queens outshot Bridgeport, 22-8, on Wednesday, and the hosts had a 13-4 edge in corner kicks also, but the Purple Knights' defense managed to keep the Knights off the scoreboard.
The Bridgeport men's soccer team will now return home and take on the University of the District of Columbia in ECC action on Saturday afternoon at 3:00 p.m.
