Bridgeport, Conn.-Junior Luka Ivanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) netted both goals on Saturday night as the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team whitewashed the visiting Franklin Pierce University Ravens, 2-0, in non-conference action. The Purple Knights are now 2-0 on the young season, and Saturday's match was the Ravens' season opener.
Ivanovic opened the scoring on the night when he slammed home a penalty kick just 8:02 in action after a Ravens' handball in the box.
Luka added an insurance goal for the winners with just under 14 minutes to play in the contest when he put home a crisp through pass from senior Erick Romero (Norwalk, Conn.)
UB goalkeepers Daniel Coviella (Fr.., Ribadesella, Spain) and Fabio Junior (Jr., Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) shared a clean sheet for the second straight match. Coviella started the match picking up the win playing the first 36:32 of play making three saves before leaving the match, and Junior finished the tilt making four stops.
Up next, the UB men's soccer team will face Assumption College at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 10 in the 2015 Bridgeport Men's Soccer Classic.
