UB Men's Soccer Blanks Nyack, 3-0, In 2015 Season Opener
Three Different Purple Knights Score Goals And Defense Allows Only Five Shots Against
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team got goals from three different players, and the team's defense did not allow a score on the evening, as the Purple Knights posted a 3-0 win over the visiting Nyack College Warriors in front of a big home crowd on a hot and steamy Thursday night.
Both teams playing in their 2015 season openers went back and forth for the first 20 minutes of play before Bridgeport junior Najja Forbes (Couva, Trinidad & Tobago) found the back of the net off a crossing pass from senior Erick Romero (Norwalk, Conn.) at the 20:54 mark of action.
The match would remain 1-0 at the half with UB holding a 7-3 advantage in shots at the break.
Just 3:52 into the second half, sophomore Femi Coker (Johannesburg, South Africa) extended Bridgeport's lead to 2-0 when he scored off a beautiful, long downfield assist for junior Rafael Torres (Belo Horizonte, Brazil).
Coker would assist on his team's final tally of evening later in the second half giving him three points in the season opener, when he found senior Luis Fajardo (Danbury, Conn.) unmarked for an easy put away in front of the Warriors goal with a cross at 65:12 mark of play.
On the night, UB outshot Nyack by a 14-5 margin.
Nyack goalkeeper Wiktor Lasota made five saves on the night.
Between the pipes for the Purple Knights, freshman Daniel Coviella (Ribadessella, Spain) and junior Fabio Junior (Rio de Janerio, Brazil) shared the clean sheet. Coviella started making three saves playing 82:46 minutes, and Junior kept Nyack off the board for the rest of the match.
The UB men's soccer team is back in action at home on Saturday, September 5 at 6:00 p.m., when the Purple Knights host the Ravens of Franklin Pierce University at Knights Field.
