Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team wrapped up its 2014 season with a 1-1 double overtime tie against the visiting Molloy College Lions on rainy, windy and cold Saturday afternoon in the Park City. Bridgeport completes its 2014 campaign at 5-9-1 overall and 4-5-1 in the East Coast Conference. Molloy is now 5-10-2 overall and 5-4-1 in conference action. The Purple Knights needed a win to stay in contention for a possible spot in the 2014 East Coast Conference Championship Tournament, but Saturday's draw eliminated UB from a shot at a top four finish in the ECC regular season standings.
Bridgeport got on the board quickly on Saturday as freshman Simon Haakansson (Stockholm, Sweden) netted his team-leading fifth goal of the year off an assist classmate Lazar Baresic (Belgrade, Serbia) just 12:20 into play.
Molloy would tie things up just 5:07 before the halftime break on a goal by Hamza Elotmani, and that's the way the match would finish after 110 minutes of action.
The Purple Knights held a 22-14 advantage in shots on the day and took eight corner kicks to only two for the Lions.
UB goalkeeper Agustin Prados (Sr., Madrid, Spain) made six saves on the day to help earn the tie for his team.
Prados, along with follow seniors Michael Chmelowski, Elliott Griffin and Christoffer Olesen were honored before the start of the match in recognition of their outstanding careers at the University of Bridgeport.
