UB Also Stays In Contention For Spot In ECC Championship Tournament Heading Into Saturday's Regular Season Finale Versus Molloy
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team snapped a five-match losing streak with a 3-1 home East Coast Conference win over the visiting St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans on Wednesday night. The victory also keeps UB in contention for a spot in the ECC Postseason Championship Tournament if the Purple Knights can defeat Molloy in their regular season finale at home on Saturday, and the University of the District of Columbia and Roberts Wesleyan College suffer losses over the weekend. With the victory, Bridgeport is now 5-9-0 overall and 4-5-0 in conference play. STAC moves to 7-6-3 overall and finished ECC play at 4-6-0.
UB junior Jordan Gerald (West Orange, N.J.) opened the scoring on Wednesday night with his first goal of 2014 at the 12:23 mark of action.
The match would head into the second half with the Purple Knights holding a 1-0, but the Spartans tied things up at 1-1 on a goal by Kenneth Caraballo at the 53:00 mark.
Bridgeport would break the tie with 14:13 to play when sophomore Luka Ivanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) notched his third goal of the season off an assist from freshman Simon Haakansson (Stockholm, Sweden).
Haakansson would add an insurance tally, his fourth goal of the year, off a beautiful assist form freshman Lazar Baresic (Belgrade, Serbia) 4:50 later to give UB its final margin of victory.
Goalkeeper Agustin Prados (Sr., Madrid. Spain) made three saves to record the win in net for the hosts.
Once again, the UB men's soccer teams closes out its 2014 regular season with a Senior Day contest versus Molly College on Saturday, November 1. Game time at Knights Field is set for 3:00 pm.
