Shirley, N.Y.-A goal just 6:12 into the second half proved to the difference in the match, as the visiting University of Bridgeport men's soccer team fell in a tight East Coast Conference match, 2-1, to the host Dowling College Golden Lions on Saturday afternoon on Long Island. UB is now 4-7-0 overall and 3-4-0 in conference play. Dowling ups its overall record to 7-5-1, and DC is 4-2-0 in the ECC.
Dowling opened the scoring in the match 23:44 into play when Mike Gronenthal scored his seventh goal of the season.
The Purple Knights would tie things up at 1-1 a little less than 10 minutes later when freshman Simon Haakansson (Stockholm, Sweden) fired home his team-leading third goal of 2014 off a scramble following a corner kick.
The score would stay 1-1 into the second half until the Golden Lions' Chris Posillico netted the game-winning score off an assist from Raffaele Sorbara at the 51:48 mark of action.
