New Haven, Conn.-After a scoreless first half, Southern Connecticut State's Daquan King scored a pair of goals two minutes apart in the 62nd and 64th minutes to help lift the host Owls, who are ranked number seven in the nation, to a 2-1 non-conference men's soccer victory over the visiting University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on a balmy October evening. With the win, SCSU is now 10-1-0 overall, and with the loss, UB is now 4-6-0 so far in 2014.
Bridgeport cut the Southern Connecticut Ste lead in half at 2-1, when junior Daniel Augenstein (Sandes, Norway) scored his second goal of the year off an assist from senior captain Christoffer Olesen (Kristiansand, Norway) with just under 10 minutes to play.
Bridgeport goalkeeper Agustin Prados (Sr., Madrid, Spain) was under heavy pressure all night long as SCSU outshot UB, 23-8, in the match. Prados made 10 saves on the evening.
The UB men's soccer team return to East Coast Conference action on Saturday at 12 noon at Dowling College when the Purple Knights will look to snap a two-match losing skid against the Golden Lions, as the team plays match number four of a six-match road swing.
