Bridgeport, Conn.-The Queens (N.Y.) College Knights scored two goals in the final 8:19 of the second half to hand the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights a heart-breaking 2-1 East Coast Conference loss on Wednesday afternoon. UB is now 3-4-0 overall and an even 2-2-0 on conference play. Wednesday's victory is QC's first of 2014, as the Knights are now 1-5-0 overall and 1-3-0 in the ECC.
After a scoreless first 45 minutes of play that saw both teams combined for just seven shots, and only one of those was on goal. Bridgeport got on the scoreboard first when sophomore Luka Ivanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) hammered home his first goal in a UB uniform when he picked up a rebound off a Jay Abreu (So., Sao Paulo, Brazil) shot and beat Queens' goalkeeper James Brostowski.
With only 8:19 to play in the match, the Knights drew even at 1-1 when Giorgios Thomatos headed home a goal off a scramble from a corner kick.
Luck was not on the Purple Knights side when QC would score the game-winning goal on a UB own with just under 13 seconds to play when a cross by Glen Reid deflected into the Bridgeport net off a UB defender.
Bridgeport goalkeeper Agustin Prados (Sr., Madrid, Spain) played another strong match making six saves.
The UB men's soccer team will look to get back in the win column on Saturday afternoon in our Nation's Capital, when the team opens a six-match road swing with an important conference tilt against the University of the District of Columbia. Action is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m.
