Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team picked up its first East Coast Conference win of 2014 with a 2-0 home shutout of the visiting Daemen College Wildcats on a humid Sunday afternoon in the Park City. UB is now 2-3-0 overall and an even 1-1-0 in the ECC. The Wildcats fall to 2-4-0 overall and are 0-2-0 in conference action.
The Purple Knights scored both of their goals early in the first half when freshman Lazar Baresic (Belgrade, Serbia) finished a beautiful through ball from sophomore Luka Ivanovic (Belgrade, Serbia) just 15:16 into play.
Sophomore Jay Abreu (Palmas, Brazil) headed home his first goal in a UB uniform at the 17:34 mark of action off a well-placed cross from senior Christoffer Olesen (Kristiansand, Norway) to give Bridgeport its final margin of victory.
UB goalkeeper Agustin Prados (Madrid, Spain) notched his second shutout of 2014, as he stopped all five shots on goal.
Up next for the Bridgeport men's soccer team is a trip to Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. on Saturday for an ECC tilt versus Mercy College. Game time on Saturday, September 27 is set for 3:00 p.m. The next home contest for the Purple Knights will be a match against Queens (N.Y.) College on Wednesday, October 1.
