Men's Soccer Nipped By Merrimack, 2-1, To Close Out 2014 UB Men's Soccer Classic
Goalkeeper Agustin Prados Shines To Keep His Team In The Match All Night Long
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team tried to fight back from a 2-0, but the Merrimack College Warriors held on for a 2-1 non-conference win over the host Purple Knights in the final contest of the 2014 University of Bridgeport Men's Soccer Classic. With the win, Merrimack remains unbeaten so far in 2014 at 4-0. With the loss, UB is now 1-2 on the young season.
After the Warriors scored goals in the ninth and 74th minutes, Bridgeport finally got on the scoreboard when sophomore Najja Forbes (Couva, Trinidad & Tobago) scored off an assist from junior Hector Pommills (Bridgeport, Conn.) at the 76:56 mark of action.
Unfortunately for UB fans, that was the only goal the Purple Knights would score on the damp evening in the Park City, as they were limited to only five shots.
Senior Agustin Prados (Madrid, Spain) stood tall in the Bridgeport net making nine saves to keep his team in the match.
Up next for the Purple Knights' men's soccer team is the squad's 2014 East Coast Conference opener versus Roberts Wesleyan College on Friday afternoon, September 19 at Knights Field. Action is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m.
