Michael Martinez' Golden Goal Gives Men's Soccer A 3-2 OT Win Over Southern Connecticut State
Purple Knights Now An Even 5-5-0 Overall On The Year
Bridgeport, Conn.-Senior Michael Martinez (Riverside, Conn.) scored the golden goal of the match 3:03 into the first overtime off an assist from junior Danny Ruiz (Stamford, Conn.), who was seeing his first action of the 2013 season, to lift the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team to an exciting 3-2 win non-conference win over the visiting Southern Connecticut State University Owls on Tuesday night. With the victory, the Purple Knights are now 5-5-0 overall, and SCSU is now 4-5-1 on the year.
Senior Christoffer Olesen (Kristiansand, Norway) scored his first two goals of the season to give the Purple Knights a 1-0 led at the 22:52 mark of the first half, but more importantly, to tie things up at 2-2 with just under seven minutes to go in regulation.
The three goals scored by Bridgeport on Tuesday is the team's top offensive output of the 2013 season.
Junior Agustin Prados (Madrid, Spain) made seven saves on the night to pick up the win in net for Bridgeport.
Next up for the Bridgeport men's soccer team is a trip to Upstate New York for important East Coast Conference matches at Roberts Wesleyan College on Friday at 7:00 p.m. and at ECC newcomer Daemen College at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday.
