Men's Soccer Grabs Fourth Straight Victory With 1-0 Home OT Triumph Over Bloomfield
Lee Martins Nets Golden Goals Just 13 Seconds Into Extra Time
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team picked up its fourth straight win in exciting fashion on a chilly Thursday afternoon at Knights Field when junior Lee Martins (Bridgeport, Conn.) scored the only goal of the match just 13 second into overtime off a feed from sophomore Luis Fajardo (Danbury, Conn.) from a play that started with the kickoff of the extra period, as the Purple Knights defeated the visiting Bloomfield College Deacons, 1-0, in a non-conference tilt. After opening the year with four straight losses, Bridgeport is now 4-4-0 overall. Bloomfield slides to 2-9-0 overall.
Martins now has three goals on the season to lead the team, and he has scored the game-winner in UB's last two victories. Farjardo leads the team with five assists so far in 2013.
Bridgeport goalkeeper Agustin Prados (Jr., Madrid, Spain) recorded four saves on Thursday to record his fourth consecutive shutout.
Thursday match was fairly even in shots, as the Purple Knights held a slim 10-9 advantage in that statistics.
The Purple Knights will now face their biggest test of the season on Saturday when the top-ranked team in NCAA Division II men's soccer, the LIU Post Pioneers come to Knights Filed for a 3:00 p.m. East Coast Conference contest.
