Strong Second Half Gives Men's Soccer Its Third Straight Victory With 2-0 ECC Win At Molloy
Lee Martins Nets Both Goals In Final 45 Minutes Of Action
Rockville Centre, N.Y.-A strong second half that included two goals by junior Lee Martins (Bridgeport, Conn.) lifted the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team its third consecutive victory, as the Purple Knights topped the host Molloy College Lions, 2-0, in an East Coast Conference match that took place on Long Island on a warm Saturday afternoon in early October. UB is now 3-4-0 overall and 3-1-0 in the ECC. Molloy now sits at 3-5-2 overall and 2-2-2 in conference play.
Martins scored his goal of the match and first of the 2013 season at the 67:00 mark when he put home a rebound off a flick on target by sophomore Luis Fajardo (Danbury, Conn.).
Martins and Fajardo would combine again to salt the contest away for the Purple Knights with just under four minutes to play when Fajardo drew the defense toward him and dribble around a defender before sending a perfect pass which Martins sent to the back of the Lions net.
Junior Agustin Prados (Madrid, Spain) recorded his third straight shutout making five saves to keep Molloy off the scoreboard. Bridgeport outshot the Lions, 13-11, in the match.
The UB men's soccer team will look to extend its winning streak to four on Thursday afternoon, when the team hosts a make-up contest versus Bloomfield College. Action is slated to begin at Knights Field at 4:00 p.m.
