Purple Knights Pick Up First Men's Soccer Win Of 2013 With 2-0 Victory Over # 18 Mercy College
UB Nets Two Goals In First 4:04 Of Play
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team picked up its first win of 2013, as the Purple Knights struck for two goals in the first 4:04 of play, as UB topped number 18 Mercy College, 2-0, in a home East Coast Conference contest on Saturday night at Knights Field. UB is now 1-4-0 overall and 1-1 in the ECC. Mercy is now 6-1-0 overall and 2-1-0 in conference play.
Graduate student Lee Middleton (Newcastle, England) got the Purple Knights on the board quickly when he found the back of the net off a free kick from sophomore Luis Fajardo (Danbury, Conn.) just 1:59 into the match. Fajardo would then assist on a goal by freshman Andreas Wardh (Gothenburg, Sweden) who netted the first goal of his UB career at the 4:04 mark.
Junior goalkeeper Agustin Prados (Madrid, Spain) made those two early goals stand up for Bridgeport, as he made three saves to record the clean sheet. UB outshot Mercy, 15-6, on the night.
The Bridgeport men's soccer team is back in action on Wednesday afternoon at St. Thomas Aquinas College in an ECC tilt. Action gets underway at 3:00 p.m.
