Clayton Ulmer Earns Second Consecutive East Coast Conference Men's Soccer Defensive Player of the Year Award
A Total of Three Purple Knights Selected To All-ECC Men's Soccer Teams
Central Islip, N.Y.-Three members of the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team have been selected to the 2012 All-East Coast Conference Teams in a vote of league coaches that was released on Monday evening.
Junior Clayton Ulmer (Hamden, Conn.) is the ECC Defensive Player of the Year and a First Team All-Conference pick for the second year in a row even with a position change to the midfield. Ulmer was a crucial part of the Purple Knights' defense that allowed only 23 goals on the year, including a total of just seven tallies in regular season ECC matches. He also helped Bridgeport shut out five opponents on the year. Ulmer also contributed one goal and two assists to the Bridgeport offense in 2012.
Senior defender Lee Middleton (Newcastle, England) joins Ulmer on the 2012 First Team All-East Coast Conference Men's Soccer Squad. Middleton helped anchor the UB backline, and also chipped in two goals and two assists for six points on offense this season.
Junior forward Andreas Blanke (Gothenburg, Sweden) was named to the All-ECC Second Team. Andreas led Bridgeport in scoring this year with seven goals and two assists for 16 points.
The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team finished the 2012 season with a 10-8-0 overall record and tied for first place in the East Coast Conference regular season standing with number one ranked nationally LIU Post, as both teams went 8-1-0 in conference play. The Bridgeport men made their tenth consecutive appearance in the conference championship tournament this year.
