Danny Ruiz Nets Both Goals As UB Men's Soccer Closes Out Regular Season With 2-0 Win At Dowling
Purple Knights Will Host NYIT In ECC Championship Semifinals
Shirley, N.Y.-Danny Ruiz (So., Medellin, Colombia/Westhill HS, Stamford, Conn.) scored both goals in the match and freshman goalkeeper Augustin Prados (Madrid, Spain) made four saves to record his fourth shutout of the season and his team's fifth clean sheet of 2012, as the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team closed out its regular season schedule with a 2-0 East Coast Conference road win over the host Dowling College Golden Lions. With the win, Bridgeport moves on to the 2012 ECC Championship semifinals with a 10-7-0 overall record, and the Purple Knights finish tied for the ECC regular season title with LIU Post at 8-1-0 in conference play, but the Pioneers will be the number one seed in the ECC Tournament by virtue of their head-to-head win over UB during the regular season.
Ruiz scored his first two goals of the season off assists from junior Christoffer Olesen Kristiansand, Norway) at the 7:43 and 40:17 marks of the first half.
Dowling closed out its 2012 season with a 2-15-1 overall record and a 0-9-0 East Coast Conference mark.
Bridgeport will now host the number three seeded Bears of NYIT in the East Coast Conference Championship semifinals. Depending on weather conditions, the match will either be played at Knights Field on Thursday, November 1 or Friday, November 2.
