Purple Knights Suffer First ECC Loss Of The Season, 3-1
Brookville, N.Y.-Sophomore Matt Garcia (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) scored the first goal of the match off an assist from freshman Luis Fajardo (Danbury, Conn.), his third goal of 2012, just 6:12 into the first half to give the University of Bridgeport men's soccer team a 1-0 lead at number one ranked in the nation and undefeated LIU Post on Saturday afternoon, but the Pioneers rebounded with three unanswered goals to notch a 3-1 home win in a battle of undefeated East Coast Conference squads. The loss snaps a seven-match winning streak for the Purple Knights who are now 7-5-0 overall and 5-1-0 in the ECC. The Pioneers are now a perfect 11-0-0 on the season and 6-0-0 in conference play.
LIU Post tied the game with just over five minutes to play in the first half and scored two goals in the second half in the 67th and 72nd minutes to grab the victory.
The Pioneers outshot UB, 17-4, on the day.
Freshman goalkeeper Augustin Prados (Madrid, Spain) made six saves on the afternoon for Bridgeport.
The Purple Knights will look to get back in the win column on Wednesday evening, October 10 when they host Nyack College for a non-conference contest. Action gets underway at Knights Field at 6:00 p.m.
