Clayton Ulmer Scores Game-Winner For UB At The 68:27 Mark
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team picked up its seventh consecutive victory with a tough 2-1 home East Coast Conference win over the St. Thomas Aquinas College Spartans on Wednesday evening. The Purple Knights are now 7-4-0 overall and 5-0-0 in the East Coast Conference. STAC falls to 2-5-2 overall and 1-3-1 in the ECC.
The Purple Knights grabbed an early 1-0 lead when junior Andreas Blanke (Gothenburg, Sweden) scored an unassisted goal just 2:46 into play take advantage of a STAC defensive misplay. The tally is Andreas' team-leading, four goal of the year.
The game would stay 1-0 in favor of UB until just over 10 minutes into the second half when the Spartans tied things at 1-1 on goal from Michael Corbi off an assist from Daniel Davren.
The Purple Knights would score what proved to the game-winning goal of the contest at the 68:27 mark of play when junior Clayton Ulmer (New Haven, Conn.) found the back of the net off a corner kick from freshman Daniel Augenstien (Sandnes, Norway).
Freshman goalkeeper Augustin Prados (Madrid, Spain) was strong in net for Bridgeport making five saves to notch his seventh win of the year.
The UB men's soccer team is back in action for a key conference match at LIU Post on Saturday (October 6) at 2:30 p.m. The Pioneers and the Purple Knights are currently tied for the lead in the conference standing as they each are 5-0-0 in the ECC. LIU Post is also ranked number one in the nation by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America.
