Purple Knights Dominate Molloy, 3-0, In Men's Soccer Action
UB Wins Sixth Straight Contest To Raise Overall Mark To 6-4-0 And Remain Unbeaten in Conference at 4-0-0
Bridgeport, Conn.-The University of Bridgeport men's soccer team played its best all-around game of the 2012 season as the Purple Knights posted an impressive 3-0 East Coast Conference home win over the visiting Molloy College Lions on Saturday night. Saturday's victory is UB's sixth in a row, as Bridgeport is now 6-4-0 overall and an unblemished 4-0-0 in ECC play. Molloy is now 4-5-0 overall and 2-1-0 in conference action.
In the first half, the Purple Knight outshot the Lions, 15-5, but could not find the back of the net, so the game was scoreless heading into the second half.
UB broke the scoreless deadlock when sophomore Matt Garcia (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) netted his second goal of the year off an assist from freshman Daniel Augenstien (Sandnes, Norway) at the 52:07 mark of play.
The Purple Knights would then up their lead to 3-0 when junior Andreas Blanke (Gothenburg, Sweden) scored two goals in less than one minute to give him three on the season scoring at the 73:08 mark off an assist from classmate Christoffer Olesen (Kristiansand, Norway) and at the 74:05 mark off an assist from freshman Luis Fajardo (Danbury, Conn.)
In the second half, Bridgeport outshot Molloy, 14-1, to finish the contest with a huge 29-6 advantage in shots. UB also took seven corner kicks compared to only three by Molloy.
Bridgeport freshman goalkeeper Augustin Prados (Madrid, Spain) made four saves to notch his third clean sheet of the season.
The Bridgeport men's soccer team completes a three-game homestand on Wednesday afternoon, October 3 when they host St. Thomas Aquinas College in an ECC tilt. Action at Knights Field is slated to get underway at 6:00 p.m.
