Bridgeport, Conn.-Substitute Jordan Branco scored two goals off the Southern New Hampshire bench and goalkeeper Joey Kapinos made five saves to help lead the fourteenth-ranked Penmen to their eleventh straight victory, a 3-0 triumph over the host University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, SNHU is now 14-2-0 overall. UB falls to 9-6-0 overall.
Branco scored his first goal of the day at the 38:10 mark of the first half when he got to a loose ball and chipped it over the Purple Knights' keeper Danny Hernandez (Jr., Bay Shore, N.Y.). Hernandez made five saves on the day for Bridgeport.
The score would stay 1-0 in favor of the Penmen until the 81st minute when P.J. Burnette would give SHNU a 2-0 lead, and then Branco scored his second goal of the day with just two seconds to play in the match to make the final 3-0.
Bridgeport will now wrap up the 2011 regular season with an important ECC contest at Queens (N.Y.) College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. If the Purple Knights defeat Queens, and NYIT either ties or loses against St. Thomas Aquinas on Sunday, UB will grab the second seed in next week's conference championship tournament and host a semifinal match versus the number three seeded team on Wednesday, November 2nd.
