Rindge, N.H.-Victor Goncalves scored the game-winning goal with only four minutes to play to lift the number seven Franklin Pierce University Ravens to a hard-fought 3-2 home non-conference men's soccer win over the University of Bridgeport Purple Knights on Thursday afternoon. Franklin Pierce is now 3-0-0 on the season, and Bridgeport is an even 1-1-0 in the early going of 2011,
FPU grabbed a 1-0 lead in the match when Nicholas Schibly scored at the 21:37 mark of the first half.
Bridgeport tied things up just before halftime when sophomore Markus Naglestad (Kristiansand, Norway) put home a penalty kick with 1:04 remaining in the opening half.
The Purple Knights grabbed a 2-1 lead five minutes and 25 second into the second half when freshman Juan Galarza (Danbury, Conn.) headed home his first collegiate goal off a pass from classmate Matt Garcia (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.).
The Raven tied things up just over 15 minutes later when Tom Reilly netted his second goal of the year to set out Goncalves' late match heroics.
