Cross Country Competes At CACC Championships
Both the UB men’s and women’s cross country team took on the challenging Belmont Plateau course in Philadelphia, Pa for the 2023 CACC Championships.
Philadelphia, Pa. – The University of Bridgeport men’s and women’s cross country team took part in the 2023 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Championships Sunday morning. UB’s women finished eighth out of 10 teams while the men’s team finished 10th out of 11. The women’s team CACC title was won by Jefferson University who finished with a team score of 39 whilst Wilmington University took home the men’s title with 46 points.
The women Purple Knights were led by Emilia Russell (So., Kingston, U.K.) as she crossed the 5k finish line in a time of 23:18.97, finishing 31st overall.
Freshman Emily Stuart (Rising Sun, Md.) finished in 45th place with a time of 25:23.40 while classmate Genevieve Fayo (Cornwall, N.Y.) came in 47th place with a time of 26:17.99.
For the men’s team, two runners finished within milliseconds of each other. Damian Coles (Fr., Philadelphia, Pa.) was UB’s top finisher by 60ms, coming across the 8k finish line in a time of 40:49.59 while classmate John Panzera (Haddam, Conn.) finished the race in a time of 40:49.65.
Up next, the UB women’s cross country team will have one more meet as they take part in the 2023 NCAA Division II East Regional. Franklin Pierce University will be this year’s host at the Hopkinton Fairgrounds with the 6k race set for a 12:00 p.m. start on Saturday, November 4th.
