Women’s Volleyball Season Comes To An End In NCAA Regionals
The Purple Knights march was ended Thursday night with a defeat to number one seed Adelphi.
Garden City, N.Y.- University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team lost their NCAA East Regional First Round game against the top seeded Adelphi University Panthers 3-1. Adelphi won sets one, two and four with scores of 25-21, 25-20 and 25-17 while UB took set three 25-20. The loss ends Bridgeport's season record at 26-8 overall and 15-1 in the CACC.
The Purple Knights went up against the top regional seed Panthers on Thursday evening in New York. Bridgeport started well, jumping out to early leads in almost every set but Adelphi proved that number one status, outhitting UB .289% to .212% and registering nine aces to Bridgeport's three.
UB was led by Grace Presswood (Fr., S. Dennis, Mass.) with a game-high 18 kills as she swung with a .304 hitting percentage to add to her 15 digs, three assists and one ace. ClassmateHailey Jessen (Fr., Highlands Ranch, Colo.) registered 16 kills and three digs.
Junior Jaden Drollinger (Queens Creek, Az.) provided 42 assists and 15 digs as well as one block, one kill and one ace.
Paola Hernandez (Jr., Bayamon, P.R.) led the back line with 17 digs in addition to five assists.
Freshman Ella Young (Commerce City, Colo.) supported the UB defense with 12 digs while Sophomore Lucia Tomiello (Caltrano, Italy) led the Purple Knights with four total blocks as well as nine kills and two digs.
