Tomiello Joins Jessen As Pair Get Recognition From American Volleyball Coaches Association
The Bridgeport pair were honored by the AVCA for their standout performance this season.
Lexington, Ky.- University of Bridgeport women's volleyball team had two members honored by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) earlier this week. Freshman Hailey Jessen (Highlands Ranch, Colo.) was named to the East Region First Team and East Region Freshman of the Year while Sophomore Lucia Tomiello (Caltrano, Italy) earned an honorable mention from the association.
Hailey Jessen continues to rack up the awards for her stellar 2023 season. The Freshman leads all of Division II women's volleyball with 567 total kills. Efficient in attack, she swings with a .246 hitting percentage and averages 4.26 kills per set which puts her at number 17 in the nation. Jessen also aids in defense for UB with and average of 1.29 digs and .29 blocks per set.
Lucia Tomiello had a great year for the Purple Knights in her second campaign. The middle blocker registered the highest hitting percentage on the squad with .378 percent, the 21st best in the country. Tomiello averaged 2.20 kills per set in attack along with 1.4 digs and .66 blocks pers set in defense.
The Purple Knights are next in action on Thursday, November 30th as they take on Adelphi University in the NCAA DII East Regional First Round.
