Freshman Marissa Mullins Selected CACC Volleyball Rookie Of The Year Plus Teammate Jaden Drollinger Named Second Team All-Conference
Duo Has Helped The Purple Knights Reach This Weekend's Conference Championship Semifinals
New Haven, Conn. -- Thomas Jefferson University's Jess Molen on Tuesday was named the 2022 Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference (CACC) Women's Volleyball Player of the Year, as announced by Commissioner Dan Mara. Molen, who was also named to the All-CACC First Team as an outside hitter, was voted the league's top player by the conference's 13 head coaches in the sport.
Molen's leader, Latifa Raheem, was named the CACC Coach of the Year for guiding the Rams to a 15-2 mark in conference play and winning the league's South Division Regular Season Championship. Jefferson won its CACC Quarterfinal match on Monday night to reach this weekend's semifinals at Holy Family University in Philadelphia, Pa.
University of Bridgeport's Marissa Mullins was named the CACC Rookie of the Year, while Wilmington University's Elly Collins was tabbed the CACC Defensive Player of the Year. Chestnut Hill College's Mia Caporellie was named the CACC Setter of the Year.
Molen ranks second in the CACC with 423 kills and 4.03 kills/set. Her 54 aces is fourth best in the conference and her 4.7 points/set is the second best average in the league. Molen turned in a season-best 28 kills in a 3-2 win over Bridgeport on Oct. 1.
Mullins' .362 hitting percentage is second best in the conference. Her defensive play at the net has also been outstanding as she leads the league with 34 solo blocks and ranks fifth with 68 assisted blocks. She was also named to the All-CACC First Team as a middle blocker.
Collins leads the conference with 526 digs and digs/set (4.70). She topped 20 digs in 10 matches during the 2022 campaign. She also garnered the All-CACC First-Team nod at libero.
Caporellie's 1,087 assists is the second-highest total in the CACC, but her average of 10.06 per set paces the conference. She, too, was named to the All-CACC First Team.
The other major award announced on Tuesday was Alliance University claiming the CACC Team Sportsmanship Award for demonstrating outstanding character during the year.
